Master Your Own Garden
A 2 hour, on-site session with Lauren at your own home to learn how to care for your own property.
In addition to hands on guidance, you will receive a personalized manual with key dates, key tasks, recommended materials, and vetted local resources.
This is purposefully designed for the individuals who have always wanted to learn to garden themselves rather than hire formal companies to manage their spaces, but do not have the time to pursue formal horticultural education.
Lauren will simplify the core skills you should begin with on your gardening journey and customize your learning to match your own home and your own plants.
IDENTIFICATION
Lauren will identify all flowers, shrubs, & grasses on your property to speed up your gardening journey — as well as making it easy to research solutions in the future.
*Having labels on hand for this visit is highly recommended.
PRUNE & DEADHEAD
What’s the difference between deadheading and pruning? What do you need to prune and when? What tools should you be using?
Lauren will simplify the most-feared garden task and leave you with a list of what to prune and what to leave alone.
WATERING
“How often should I water?” is the most common and most important question. Unfortunately, there is no better answer than, ‘When the plants need it!’
This is your first skill to develop as a gardener and Lauren will give you a crash course — as well as provide guidance on irrigation, hoses, and all things watering.
FEEDING YOUR GARDEN
Fertilizing is an valuable optimization tool in the garden — and most of us either over-fertilize or skip this step altogether.
Lauren will evaluate what is growing on your property and identify what is worth fertilizing and recommend organic, environmentally responsible products.
MANAGING PESTS
A balanced ecosystem will result in lots of bugs and very minimal plant damage. But a little plant damage is a good sign of their presence. It is only when your ecosystem is unbalanced that you will see an ‘infestation’ which causes real issues. Lauren will help you address previous issues and recommend future solutions.
WINTERIZING YOUR GARDEN
This is a short period of preparing your garden and landscape for winter, with these tasks typically beginning in October. Lauren will review key ways to set your garden up for success going into winter, and most importantly, share what tasks not to do even though everyone else might be.
PROBLEM AREAS
No piece of developed land is perfect. We all inherit gifts and challenges when stewarding a new property.
Lauren will recommend a plan for managing key issues like unwieldy invasives, soil improvement, mulching, stressed trees, poor drainage, and functional challenges.
